Tablets are coated for a number of reasons, typically;
- To cover an unpleasant taste
- To cover an unpleasant odour
- To disguise colour
- To prevent degradation of chemical composition of the tablets (certain chemicals react/degrade on exposure to moisture, ultra-violet light or air)
- To make identification easy
- To make blistering easy
- To control drug release or permit expiry date identification
- For branding purposes
Tablet coating machines are typically found in the Pharmaceutical Industry, in the finishing areas of drug manufacturing production lines.
The tablet coating machine is employed to coat the external surface of a tablet using a thin film of coating material. The coating is a process is essentially a dry, outer layer of coating material which is applied to the surface of a dosage form in order to confer specific benefits over uncoated variety. It involves application of a sugar or polymeric coat on the tablet.
Working principle of tablet coating machine is relatively simple where the application of the coating material is done on a moving bed of tablets and removing rapidly the solvent using a current of hot air. Tablets are placed in a closed drum which rotates continuously in an orbital manner whereby the coating medium sprays automatically in a rational manner to avoid excess coating on the tablets. Hot air is introduced in the process to help drying and regulate temperature.
The result is a uniform coating of the tablet with an organic solvent, aqueous or enteric coating.
The Standard Group design and manufacturer Tablet Coating Barrier Isolators to help control the quality aspects of the production line. We have worked with many national and international manufacturers of Tablet Coating Machines as we all End User Pharmaceutical plants. Give us a call if you have a Table Coating Machine application that requires Barrier Isolator technical support or new supply quotation.
Auto Coater Isolators
The Standard Group of Companies designs, manufactures, installs and commissions Auto Coating Isolators for use with tablet coating machines.
The Auto Coater Isolator conforms to current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) which can be designed for application of the coating material done on a continuously moving bed of tablets.
